Ever wondered why videos are such an effective tool in getting your message across and engaging your target market? Whether it’s branded ads, influencer vlogs, or even funny animal clips—video remains to be the most engaging type of content you see online. According to BuzzSumo’s study of over 777 million Facebook posts, videos generate over 59% more engagement than other posts.

People love stories—we gravitate towards narratives because it’s a great way to process and remember information. And what makes videos such a great medium for storytelling is that it allows you to create a tale with the use of imagery and sound.

More than just words on a page or a static image staring back at you, you get a series of moving images, animated and in-sync with sound, to make the story even more real.

As more and more brands discover that videos are the way to go in winning people over, how can you create content that resonates with your audience, especially in this age of cluttered content online? We’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves to help you out.

Create snackable stories

It’s all about quality. There’s no need to drown our your main message in elaborate scenes and long, dragged out visuals. Focus on what you want to say and build your video to have elements that make it easier for your audience to understand and remember your key message. Make your video worth your viewers’ time.

It’s all about the first frames

It takes only seconds for you to capture the eye of your audience and make them stay on your video before they decide to just scroll past you on their feed. What’s your hook? How do you get them to linger and stay for the entire video?

Find a way to creatively present your video to keep them wanting to see more of it. If you can, and if it’s one of your goals—try to get branding exposed in the first few frames, so they know it’s your content right from the start, even if they don’t stay for the entire video.

Try vertical edit

What device does your target audience use the most? Most people view content on their smartphones, and since they’re probably scrolling on their feeds vertically—why not make it easier for them to video your video without tilting their phones? It’s all about making it easier for your audience, and allowing the most optimal viewing experience possible for them.

Create content that can be enjoyed without sound

85% of video content is viewed without any sound on Facebook. Make sure you include subtitles that run across the video. Use text supers across your videos and make use of graphics to enhance the experience even without sound. This way, your audience can still enjoy your content withouth going our of their way to listen to the sound.

Include a call-to-action

What do you want your audience do after the video? Maybe it’s to visit your website. Perhaps it’s to keep watching your other content. Set goals for your content and create ways to achieve and measure them.

You can ask people to comment your video to get them to engage with your content more, you may ask them to follow you on social media, you can urge them to go out and buy your product. By adding a CTA, you maximize your content and nudge people towards your desired action.
